March 2023 Report: Electronic Component Quality Insights from White Horse Laboratories

In March 2023, our tests on various electronic components provided valuable insights into the current state of the industry. Key findings include:

  1. Dominant component types tested were MOSFETs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.
  2. Texas Instruments (TI) remains a significant player, with Infineon Technologies leading in the number of tested components.
  3. The proportion of failed components due to functional test failures surpassed refurbishment and counterfeit issues.

March's data showed a decrease in the testing volume of diodes, switches, and regulators compared to February. The market share of TI products increased from 16.5% to 23.5%, with On Semiconductor and ST Microelectronics following closely.

Functional test failures indicate an increasing number of cases opting for these tests, reflecting a growing focus on product quality. Counterfeit/suspected counterfeit products accounted for about 10% of failures, while solderability test failures remained low at less than 1%.
